Back Creek Presbyterian's Core Values

Since we are a collection of diverse individuals, we all have slightly different values with regard to how we go about serving Christ. Yet certain common values given by God in scripture unify our efforts and define us as a specific congregation. We can summarize our core values in the following statements.

Because we believe that God values the exaltation of Himself, we value:

1. Excellence in worship: Because our ultimate purpose is to glorify and please God, we believe worship should be Christ-centered, participatory, and sensitive to our culture.

2. Faith-stretching ministry: Because only God is able to accomplish great works for His kingdom, we believe Back Creek should be a community that leans heavily on God and therefore is willing to take risks, innovate, and change.

3. Generous Stewardship: All our resources – spiritual gifts, time, talent, treasure – are unmerited gifts of God and therefore are to be completely surrendered to His lordship.

Because we believe that God values life transformation, we value:

4. Renewal: Back Creek should be a community that reflects the renewing character of the gospel and seeks to bring renewal to the greater University City area.

5. Small Groups: Small groups are the single best avenue for creating communities in which life transformation can happen. Therefore Back Creek should equip members to minister to one another in the context of small group communities.

6. Shared Servant Leadership: People’s lives are changed when they begin to minister to others. Therefore Back Creek will be a place where people are encouraged to participate in servant leadership.

Because we believe that God values people from every tribe, tongue, and nation, we value:

7. The Lost: Our God is a missionary God and therefore Back Creek must be a missionary church.

8. Diversity: The gospel breaks down the dividing walls and therefore Back Creek itself should be a diverse community.

9. Bridge Building Ministries: Back Creek should be a community that blesses her neighbors and gives them a taste of God’s extravagant grace.
