Matt Carr
Senior Pastor
Matt has been married to the incomparable Shannon for over18 years and they have 3 wonderful daughters and one awesome son. He grew up all over the South (MS, FL, GA, AL) as a pastor’s kid, but now calls Carolina home.
Matt is a graduate of Covenant College (BA) and Reformed Theological Seminary (M.Div.). He has served in ministry for over a decade, and has been senior pastor at Back Creek since 2016.
He enjoys sports (especially FSU athletics – Go Seminoles!), movies, music, theatre, art, and being with people.
His passion in ministry is to see people liberated by the gospel of Jesus and equipped to serve in Christ’s kingdom. Matt loves and desires to live the mission of Back Creek Church: connecting people with the hope of the gospel.

Kelly has worked on the Back Creek campus for more than a decade, teaching at the Academy and assisting in the Preschool before joining our church staff in 2016. She is passionate about children’s ministry and loves watching children come to know that they are made in God’s image and find their value in his love.
Kelly is a graduate of Erskine College (BA), where she studied Christian Education. She also studied Supervision and Administration at Liberty University.
Kelly and her husband Wayne have two daughters, Sarah and Sophia. The Noonoos have been members of Back Creek Church since 2004. They love to spend time in the mountains and at home with friends and family.
Ruthie graduated from Elon University with a degree in Elementary Education, certified in K-8. She has taught Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 5th Grade. In 1985, she moved with her husband Mike and their family to Charlotte and joined Back Creek Church. After having her 2nd child, Ruthie felt called to teach preschoolers. She taught at Mallard Creek Preschool for 5 years, until Back Creek Church desired to start a preschool. The Lord sure works in mysterious ways as leading a preschool was never on Ruthie's radar. But God is good, as she has now served in this ministry for over 27 years.
